It may not officially be summer yet, but the kids are out of school and the weather sure is warm! If you are like many of us here at The Indy Property Source, you have young children … young children who get bored VERY easily! We are lucky to live in areas that allow us to have fun outdoors without spending an arm and a leg. We talked to our team and gathered a list of some of their favorite outdoor activities for their families during warm weather seasons.
Picnic in the Park – An easy choice for those wanting to get out of the house for a just a quick bit! Pack a lunch, load up the car, and head to one of the many parks in your area!
Splash Pad – Looking to make a splash? Many towns now offer a Splash Pad – a great place for kids to play in the water on hot days without having to worry about crowded pools. Here are a few local parks that have them in place.
Washington Township Park, Hummel Park, Carson Park, Williams Park, Mulberry Fields, City Center Park.
Water Balloon Fight – Don’t want to drive anywhere? You don’t have to! Hit up your local Walmart, Meijer or Target and grab some water balloons. If your kids are like mine, they don’t mind throwing things! Why not send them outside to enjoy some time cooling off and enjoying a little competition!
Hiking – Best suited for warm, but not too hot days. Pack a lunch, lace up your sneakers, and take the kids on a nice hike that doesn’t require you to drive a few hours. A favorite in Hendricks County is the Sodalis Nature Park. You can also visit Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis which has some fantastic trails as well.
River Tubing – Don’t mind a little drive? Hit up Turkey Run for Tubing Tuesday ($5 per tube)
Movies in the Park – Most towns are offering free movies in the park during the time kids are out of school. Here are a few of our favorites. Many even give a list ahead of time of what movies will be shown!
- Fishers Nickel Plate District Amphitheater
- Shops at Perry Crossing (Plainfield) – Movies in Town Square
- Movies on the Hill in Avon
